Manuscript Evaluations

John P. Travis, Editor/Publisher, and Stephany Evans will read up to 15 manuscripts not to exceed 15 pages each.   Manuscripts must be postmarked no later than August 1. 

        

John P. Travis, Editor and Publisher of Portals Press in New Orleans, teaches American Literature and Creative Writing at Our Lady of Holy Cross College. 

He has written for several publications and is a graduate of West Georgia College and North-eastern University (in Boston).   His novel, Pitching in the Dark, won the Hackney Literary Award.

         

Stephany Evans, Literary Agent, is President of FinePrint Lit, and is the ghost author of five published books in the categories of memoir and spirituality. She is a member of the Association of Authors' Representatives, the Author's Guild, and Romance Writers of America; she is a member of the Women's National Book Association, and a member and former co-chair of New York Women in Publishing.

 

Manuscripts submitted for critique should be:

  • no longer than 15 pages,

  • double-spaced,

  • in 12-pt Courier or Times Roman black

  • on 20-lb (standard) white paper

  • with one-inch margins.

  • With the exception of Page One, all pages should contain the page number preceded by the author's last name in the upper right-hand corner .

  • Indent the first line of each paragraph of text on all pages one-half inch

  • Pages should be held together with a paper clip (no staples).

The first page should be formatted as follows:

  • The word count should be placed in the top right corner.

  • The name and address of the author should be placed in the upper left corner.

  • The title should be uppercase and centered approximately one-third of the way down the page from the top margin.

  • The text should begin four lines below the title.

Along with your manuscript, please also submit:

  • A log -line (one-to-two sentence summary of your book), and

  • A one-paragraph  biography that focuses on your writing experience and/or marketability.

  1. A check for $50.00 payable to Muscogee County Friends of Libraries with "CVWC Manuscript Evaluation" on the Memo line must accompany each manuscript.

  2. Include a note (separate from the manuscript) that states which evaluator (Evans or Travis) you prefer.

  3. Include a self-addressed, stamped envelope for return of your manuscript should the quotas for each evaluator be exceeded or the manuscript not be prepared in accordance with the rules.

 

All submissions must be postmarked no later than August 1, 2008.
